The Photographers' Gallery in the West End is one of London's hidden gems. Tucked away behind a few cardboard-pizza vendors and minus any helpful signs, it's very easy to miss the little black door that leads into a small space dedicated to worshipping the camera. The gallery is aptly named as it certainly isn't the sort of place where you'll find a "Celebrity Portraits" competition. The Photographers' Gallery is for those who are serious about photography and want to see the best shots the world has to offer.
As such, each year it plays host to the Deutsche Borse Photography Prize. The winner is the photographer who is judged to have made the biggest contribution to the art in the past year and they walk away with a very healthy £30,000. This year's frontrunners include Anna Fox, Zoe Leonard and Donovan Wylie. Whether you like you photography as art or you want it with a social commentary, there is something here for everyone. Definitely worth pushing your way through the tourists. The Photographers' Gallery, 5 and 8 Great Newport Street, WC2 (020 7831 1772). Sat 11am - 6pm & Sun 12pm - 6pm, £Free
