Law student wins Miss England competition
10 September 2010
The title of Miss England 2010 has been awarded to law student and wannabe solicitor Jessica Linley, bringing a whole new meaning to the term "beauty parade".
The final - from glamorous Birmingham - took place last week. Linley - already Miss Nottingham (even though she's from Norwich) - beat off stiff competition from Miss Romford, Miss Basingstoke and, incongruously, Miss Natural Curves. According to organisers, the contest has banned the swimwear round and the "
girls" take part in fitness, talent, sports and charity rounds - it really is "
so different compared to the bathing beauty contest of yesteryear". Hmmm, tell that to Miss Natural Curves.
Anyway, Linley has recently finished her first year at Nottingham University and would be returning to her studies if she hadn't just won the opportunity to represent her country in China, as well as a load of trinkets and baubles and the undying enmity of Germaine Greer.

Lawyers yesterday

Linley, who is treasurer for her Nottingham Uni's law society according to the
Nottingham Post, said that she "
wanted to become a lawyer from a very early age...I always keep my eyes on the end goal. I want to become a solicitor."
The contest will be shown on the Active Channel next week and
Glamorous Solicitor may be looking up.
