A&O associate publishes steamy novel
16 January 2009
Whilst temperatures in Moscow might be below freezing, it seems one Allen & Overy associate is doing her best to keep the office warm with a steamy online novel.
Deidre Dare (her real name) publishes the novel, Expat, on her website (warning: not entirely work safe). It comes with the tagline "philosophy can be sexy", although it seems Dasha, the book's heroine, is much keener on sex than philosophy. Within the first sentence readers are treated to the apparent shortcomings of Frenchmen's private parts. A further eleven chapters see Dasha dashing round Moscow to pursue a series of affairs with men of various nationalities.Â"There is something thrilling about being in bed with a Frenchman" claims Dasha. Or a Russian or a German, depending on the chapter.
However with such gems as "you are my verb, the adjective of my existence" and "I had the happy dazed glow of someone on lithium" Phillip Roth may not yet be shaking in his boots.
What's more, it seems Dare's literary achievements are currently on hold. A message on the website says, "the author has been forbidden from publishing further chapters of Expat for the time being. She will resume if and when she is allowed to." Sources tell RollOnFriday that A&O objects to the site and has demanded that Dare take it down.

Luckily for her readers Dare hasn't limited herself to novels. She has also posted pictures of herself in a rather diaphanous nightie (not suitable for work - in fact, just not very suitable). Plus some of her own poetry for everyone to enjoy. Including:
"The mistress life is very hard,
You live on the edge of a quick discard".
Hmm.
A spokesman for A&O said that whilst it didn't comment on individual members of staff, "everyone at Allen & Overy is expected to conduct themselves appropriately and professionally at all times".
